Wazoogles Supernatural Oats: My New True Loves.

So Wazoogles is a pretty new superfood brand, only having graced our shelves with their magical packaging in the past couple of years. Started by two brothers- typical Cape Townian surfers who put the cherry on top of the Cape Town standard of hotness with their change to veganism (read the story here)- it's a brand that isn't just another vegan protein powder, but one that actually focuses on the holistic benefits of a healthy diet.

They started off with incredible plant-based superfood protein powders, in the pretty gnarly flavours of Kungfu Coffee, Chocolate Moondust, Plant Power, Unicorn Berry, and Vanilla Sky. The incredible thing is that their ingredients aren't just the standard bro-tein of whey/soy/pea-protein, a flavouring and some form of sweetener- but rather are filled with every superfood under the sun (seriously- what is lucuma and mesquite?). And for hardly much more money than your highly average, run of the mill vanilla protein powder. You're not just supplementing your protein intake, but actually filling yourself with tons of little fruits and powders that basically make you superhuman (that's why they're called superfoods, right?). No wonder their logo is a unicorn- there's actual magic in those packets!

I love their proteins and have tried almost all of them- haven't tackled the Kungfu Coffee, but their Vanilla Sky is the best vanilla flavoured protein I've ever had. Buuuut the personal favourite is definitely Plant Power. So obviously when Faithful To Nature announced the new Supernatural Oats and their special Buy Two Get Two deal for their birthday- I had to try them.

Overexcited and in awe of the packaging- I cannot stop talking about the packaging people... the details, the colours, it's magical- I ordered Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough and Peanut Butter Coconut Cup the first time around. And only after getting my goodies, I realised there were two more flavours- so naturally, I ordered more.

The best part about the special is that it's like Secret Santa or Pass the Parcel- there are gifts involved that are total surprises! Also a fun thing about Faithful To Nature is that they often pop little presents/samples in your orders- and you can choose what kind (hair care, skincare, food, kiddies etc)- more gifts!

So in my first order my surprise flavours were Salted Caramel Mulberries and Double Chocolate Maca- yay and yay.

And here are my thoughts and favourites;

Disclaimer: I didn't have these the traditional oat pot way (by adding boiling water and popping the lid on for the allocated time). I prefer soaked oats- especially if protein powder is involved- because it's a lot easier on my tummy, from my own experience. So I had basically all of these as overnight soaked oats. It does change the way they taste somewhat, and obviously changes the texture, but obviously prepare them however works for you. (by change taste I don't mean either is better or worse btw)

Also a tip: if you do struggle with high acidity levels, reflux, or problematic digestion after eating oats (with or without supplements added in), try swapping cooked oats for soaked oats. I've found they're a lot easier to digest and I don't have the same reactions to it as I do to cooked oats.

First one up obviously had to be the Peanut Butter Coconut Cup flavour (if you know me, you understand the addiction).

How did I have it: Soaked overnight.

Thoughts, feelings, emotions: Definitely the naturally sweetest of the first four. Didn't add anything to this one and it was perfect. It smells super duper peanutty when you first open it, but doesn't taste as strong as you expect- which is actually nice because even I know that peanut butter can be overdone. Also, crunchy coconut slices- BIG FAN. If you like (love) peanut butter- this is a definite win and you basically have to order it without even hesitating.

Rating: 9/10 (only not 10/10 because it's the only one I had a slight acidity reaction to but I'm not 100% sure that was the oats themselves). Overall- expectations were met and exceeded.

Next up: Double Chocolate Maca. (Chocolate is my second addiction to nut butter so I was excited)

How did I have it: Soaked overnight. (also highly recommend eating it in the car outside of work because you've arrived early accidentally- but don't recommend getting to work half an hour early.)

Thoughts, feelings, emotions: So firstly, there are chocolate covered crunchy bits in this mix, and I don't know exactly what they are but I love them and I'd like a lifetimes supply please and thank you. Secondly- and this is a sad one from a chocolate lover, I was ever EVER so slightly disappointed. I don't know if maybe my tastebuds were off, but this wasn't as chocolatey and dreamy as I expected, and lacking a little on the sweetness. Granted- I have full faith that with a little extra sweetener and a dollop of nut butter, it could become a favourite.

The one I'm pretty sure I loved because it matched my shirt- Salted Caramel & Mulberries.

How did I have it: Soaked Overnight + 1 tbsp of chia seeds

Thoughts, feelings, emotions: Oh my word. Honestly I wasn't entirely convinced when receiving this one because I am very particular about my salted caramel flavour- but I'd like to eat this for breakfast every morning until I'm at least 30. The mulberries are also amazing and why I have never had them before is a question I would like answered @obama. I love it I love it I love it. It doesn't need anything more, it's perfect just the way it is, I could hype it up all day- but I'll leave it at a resounding...

Rating: 10/10

How did I have it: I've had this one twice (this flavour came in both my orders) so I had the chance to try it the cooked and soaked ways. So two reviews;

Thoughts, feelings and emotions:

COOKED: it's a nice flavour, but wouldn't be my take on chocolate chip cookie dough. It was a little salty to me honestly, which seemed a bit odd. But once again- I'm not totally a cooked oats fan all the time.

SOAKED: Definitely better than the cooked for me. Once again, didn't add any sweetener or anything, and still found it a little salty for a cookie flavour. Would say it needs a more vanilla base flavour with chocolate chips... but not sure if I just missed that in the taste? But honestly I quite liked it as a good go-to flavour!

A classic comfort... Cinnamon Banana Bread

How did I have it: literally soaked for about an hour and a half as a last minute super quick lunch prep.

Thoughts, feelings and emotions: I liked it! And honestly as someone who has eaten cinnamon and banana oats for years, it was such a lovely comfort meal. It's exactly what you expect from it, and let's be honest- who doesn't associate banana bread with a cozy Sunday in front of the fire? It's a hug in a meal.

And the grand finale; Wildberry Fig Crumble (spoiler alert- it's purple!)

How did I have it: Soaked, obviously, with some chia seeds. This one doesn't seem to have as much in it as the others but I could also be totally wrong. So I just bulked it up with chia seeds.

Thoughts, feelings, emotions: Love it! Firstly, I'll say it again, the oats are actually purple. Could you get anymore magical? I also am a admitted dried fig addict so this was bound to be a favourite. It's super flavourful and the mulberries/dates/figs combo is a dream. I would easily say this is a top three favourite flavour, without a doubt! It's like a little dessert pot, and adding the chia seeds gives it a really great texture so definitely do that.

Rating: 10/10

I think I can safely say I am obsessed with these! If you haven't tried them out- I highly recommend you do. It's so refreshing to see convenient and healthy options (that aren't just fruit or carrot stick and hummus) becoming available. I always got so frustrated reading the ingredients of instant oat pots and seeing any milk products, so these are going to be a life saver from now on. And were really ideal for my eating-breakfast-in-the-car life. And it's so nice to not have the standard flavours of just chocolate or cinnamon. These are really interesting and well executed flavours that make you honestly feel like you are eating dessert for breakfast- an ideal situation in my professional opinion as a breakfast fan.

Seriously, if you are looking for some healthy quick meals/snacks, you have to give these a go. And while you're at it, try out their protein powders. I've just seen that they've come out with a new flavour, peanut butter- I mean is it a match made in heaven or what? So I know for sure that I'm going to be giving that a try! And the great thing is that they sell little 33g single serving sachets of the powders, so if you want to test them out and find out which is your favourite before committing to 500g's of it, you can!

I hope you guys give these a try, and let me know what you think if you do!

Be kind x.
