Just Some Things I'm Enjoying Right Now

I like lists. And I particularly like making lists of things I'm really loving in the moment- especially when it low-key (high-key) feels like a lot is not going well at the moment (update: I still dislike my job and want to get on the next plane/ship/national road out of here). So sometimes I just have to think of the nice soft and lovely things that I can enjoy despite the feelings of restlessness.
1. My bed. Guys I have the best bed ever. It's amazing and, despite it being slightly closer to the ground than your average bed, is just a dream. I missed it so much while I was travelling and lately the duvet has just been doing the perfect snuggle-duvet-cloud thing. It's a very committed relationship that I am proud to be a part of.
2. Water. Okay- get back up off the floor, I know. I don't drink a lot of water, a worryingly low amount some doctors and my dietician have said. But lately- homegirl has been smashing at least 1.5 litres a day. I know guys- I'm proud too.
3. My essential oils. So I'm not much of a medicine person. Supplements and vitamins? Go for it. Medicine? Stay away. I hate taking pills for pain, colds, sleep- you name it. So I've delved into the deep and potently odoured world of essential oils. And all you non-believers can turn those wagging fingers away because they work. I had a period of two to three weeks of terrible sleep after my trip in January- and lack of sleep turns me into an anxious mess let me tell you- but I fixed it within a week. Literally just with lavender oil in my diffuser. Let me break them down for you;
Lavender oil:
For sleep problems- put a few drops in water in a candle diffuser and burn a tea-light candle through the night (don't worry, they die off within a few hours, no midnight fire runs)- Y'ALL WILL SLEEP LIKE A GRANDDAD AFTER CHRISTMAS LUNCH.
For skin- the day before I can feel a break out coming on I apply a drop or two of the oil directly to the spot and I swear it's gone the next day. I can't hold it up against all skin problems, but it has helped me many a time.
Peppermint oil:
For tummy aches and bloating- you're going to think this is weird but rubbing peppermint oil on your stomach after a huge meal or when you're feeling a few months pregnant with pizza, it really does soothe it.
Headaches- now my go to for head aches is magnesium oil, but I've read that putting peppermint oil at the base of your skull or behind your ears can really reduce a headache.
Bergamot oil:
I'm new to this one but a hair stylist friend of mine told me that adding a few drops of bergamot oil to ones shampoo makes your hair grow like crazy. And as someone who is prone to the regretful hair chop every year, your girl needs this mane to grow again.
I'm using a few others and am super keen to do a post all about them and general natural medicines and remedies really soon, so I'm going to put a pin in that for the time being.
4. Nutrition podcasts. I'm back into this podcast game these days- let's be honest, I can only put The Wombats on shuffle for so many mornings of traffic a week. So for the past week I've been ploughing through so many amazing podcasts around nutrition and dietetics- specifically surrounding gut health and plant based diets. I have such a love for nutrition and the science behind food- still grappling with the idea of pursuing the degree- and these little 30-60 minute nuggets of info have been so amazing to listen to when sitting behind the same VW Polo every morning. If you're looking for any, I can highly recommend "Fit and Fearless", "Don't Salt My Game", and "The Food Medic".
5. Piercings. I've never been one to want a lot of piercings- I have two in each ear already and I thought that would be it But there must be something in the air because at least three people I follow on instagram have recently decorated their ears with even more and I want in. So watch this space because I might be sporting some new shiny bits in my ears soon?
6. Astrology, Tarot, Auras etc. I've always been into astrology, and have a friend whose mom is an astrologist, so it's been a huge part of our friendship along the way (many conversations filled with "you're such a true Gemini"- love it). But this year I've really been trying to tap into my inner yogi and become more in tune with all of those beliefs and energies. I'm so interested in auras and chakras and God, will someone just do a tarot reading for me already!? Honestly, when I feel like I have no idea if I'll still be in my job next week or what I want to study next year- I'd just like an Angel Card to tell me what to do!
7. Running and getting fit. If you've been watching instagram stories and reading some of the posts on here this year, you'll know that I've been grappling with my fitness-work balance. Going from a pretty free student who could go to a spinning class three times a day instead of lectures- to working five days a week, ten hours a day... it's safe to say that a Wednesdays With Wade Spin Class might put me in hospital now. I was running earlier this year to train for a 12km race- which I loved and smashed and want to do again and again. And then a hopped off on a two month trip that included maybe five gym sessions and a lot of brunches. So I'm getting back into the fitness game and honestly I'm actually enjoying starting from scratch. Even wheezing through a 4km run is feeling good, to actually be out there, so I'm really keen for this to be the start of another fitness phase for me!
Making this list has actually made me realise how much I'm enjoying at the moment, especially because I've actually cut this down to only seven and feel like I could add a few more! Just goes to show that you could be feeling a little overwhelmed and down in the dumps about how things are going at the moment, but sitting down and writing a few lovely things actually helps to set your mood straight.
I hope you guys have a lovely rest of the week and maybe there will be a post on Friday... I don't even know anymore hahah.
